A historical test (also called a backtest) applies today’s companies and chosen weights to past prices. It is hypothetical. It was built with hindsight, does not reflect decisions anyone actually made, and is not a track record.

Tests assume monthly rebalancing and a 10 basis point trading cost. They exclude fees, taxes, bid-ask spreads, and the price impact of larger trades. Results depend heavily on the dates chosen and can look much better than reasonable long-term expectations, especially over short windows.

When you compare weightings on a draft, picking the best of several tests overstates how well that choice will do next. Past results, real or simulated, do not predict future results.

When you save a portfolio, we record its value from that day using market prices. No trades are placed. This forward tracking is a model portfolio. It excludes fees, taxes, trading costs and any difference between the price we use and the price you would have received.

Numbers shown on the home page and in other examples are hypothetical and for illustration only. They are not actual results.

Trend stages, entry signals, stop levels, review flags, grades and the market backdrop grade are automated diagnostics based on past prices and public data. They are not instructions to buy, sell or hold. They can be wrong, late, or misleading, and they can change without notice.

The market backdrop grade affects when entry signals appear. It does not change which companies match your idea or how a portfolio is weighted.

Matches are produced automatically from the text of company filings, fund holdings and a theme catalog. Software can misread a filing or a company’s business, and a company can be missing or included by mistake. Read the evidence shown for each match.

Themes are marked “Not yet tested” unless they have been checked against historical data. Being included in a theme does not mean a company is a good investment.

Fund holdings come from Form 13F filings. These are filed quarterly, arrive up to 45 days after quarter-end, and generally cover only U.S.-listed long positions. They do not show short positions, derivatives, cash or most non-U.S. holdings, and they do not show a manager’s reasons.

We show a selection of managers, not all managers. A manager’s presence or activity is not an endorsement and does not mean they are skilled or that you should follow them.

We use company filings from the SEC’s EDGAR system, market data from third-party providers including Tiingo and Yahoo Finance, and economic data from FRED. Analyst estimates and price targets are third-party opinions.

Data may be delayed, incomplete or wrong, and we do not guarantee its accuracy. Fundamentals can be up to 30 days old. Check any figure against the original source before relying on it. Use of these sources does not mean they endorse TradeMyTheme.

Company, fund and index names, tickers and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify them. Their use does not imply any affiliation or endorsement.

Saved portfolios are private to your account. We do not ask for brokerage credentials.
